Evans Cycles

Evans Cycles positions itself as the UK's largest quality cycle retailer, providing maximum choice and value to the UK's cycling consumers. Alongside retail, Evans offer cycle maintenance, training and events.

Costs vary depending on service, but are able to offer Bike 'Healthchecks', basic maintenance and demonstrations bikes and equipments. Scope is limited to locations within close proximity to Evans' stores.

Rollapaluza are dedicated to reviving the sport of roller-racing / Goldsprints. Two cyclists battle it out on a pair of custom rollers connected to a huge dial over a simulated 500m distance at speeds in excess of 50mph!

Our minimum charge is based on a four hour session, 90 - 120 participants in a "have-a-go" format (where everyone races once), or up to 70 participants in a traditional "competition" format with knockout rounds. Everyone is encouraged to try out the rollers over a 500m sprint, we take their photo whilst they are riding and record their time on our computer.

One set of equipment takes up a 4x3m area, one hour is necessary either side of the activity for set up and pack down and a parking space for a van is required for the duration of the event.

The package provided by BlendaVenda includes hire of two cycle units, staff and plenty of fruit for students to create their own delicious drinks. Blendavenda can tailor events to suit your needs - for example, bring a competition element to it.

Contact your local PCT to find out if they offer any active travel campaigns or if they offer programme of led walks or cycle rides.

Energy Savings Trust

Take the Eco-Driving Challenge! The purpose-built Eco-driving Simulator has been developed to provide practical eco-driving skills and show people how to cut their carbon emissions whilst driving. It is a fun interactive experience that teaches the user good practice and economical driving techniques that are proven to cut fuel consumption. Experts from the Energy Saving Trust are on hand to give eco-driving advice like watching your speed, avoiding last minute braking and sharp acceleration and changing gear to the right time.

The package offered by the Energy Saving Trust includes hire of the simulator, and a prize draw, and costs £1000 but the price is negotiable in return for completion of a set number of 'green driving' questionnaires

Studentcarshare.com is a sister site of liftshare.com, the UK's biggest public car-sharing scheme. Student Carshare is an online journey-matching system that enables like-minded students wanting to travel the same way to make contact and share trips home for holidays, commutes to campus or even journeys to events and festivals. There are University-specific 'groups' set up or individuals can join the national scheme.

Liftshare provide a free roadshow giving students information on Liftshare and giving them the opportunity to sign-up. There is an online cost-calculator available to predict the cost saving associated with car sharing.

Connect by Hertz are offering free membership to students (subject to terms and conditions) and have a portable promotional roadshows for events. They can also bring a demonstration car to park on site.

Most London Boroughs have a Sustainable Travel or Travel Awareness Advisor who will be able to give advice on local transport options and campaigns. Get in touch with the Borough's Cycling Officer to find out if free cycle training is available to Borough residents and if they can provide any assistance with bike maintenance or bike security.

Safer Neighbourhoods provides a team of officers dedicated to every London neighbourhood. Safer Neighbourhoods teams are dedicated to the community and are additional to other policing teams and units in London. Many teams already offer bike security (through tagging or marking) and are willing to do specialist sessions at Universities.
